They usually occur in the legs.<\/p>\n<p>Varicose veins sometimes form in other parts of the body. This article focuses on varicose veins that form in the legs.<\/p>\n<h2>What are the symptoms?<\/h2>\n<p>Varicose veins can cause, among others, the following symptoms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>blue, bulging veins<\/li>\n<li>itching or burning discomfort around the veins<\/li>\n<li>changes in skin colouring around the veins<\/li>\n<li>swelling in the legs<\/li>\n<li>dull, persistent pain in the legs<\/li>\n<li>a feeling of heaviness in the legs and feet<\/li>\n<li>nocturnal leg cramps<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Varicose veins can sometimes limit your activity. Symptoms may worsen when you sit or stand for long periods, and may improve when you lie down or elevate your feet.<\/p>\n<p>Talk to a health care provider if you think you have varicose veins. Getting early treatment can keep varicose veins from getting worse and help prevent complications, such as bleeding and ulcers. The\u00a0<a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/spanish\/ency\/patientinstructions\/000744.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">ulcers<\/a><a class=\"ext-icon\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhlbi.nih.gov\/es\/salud\/varices#\"><span class=\"element-invisible\">external link<\/span><\/a>\u00a0are open sores that do not heal well and can become infected or cause other problems.
