All types of varicose veins

treatment of varicose veins without surgery

About the pathology

What is it about?

This section is particularly aimed at patients with large, dilated veins, which are perceived as "bulges" in the legs or thighs.

These varicose veins are the visible face of an underlying venous insufficiency.

Chronic venous insufficiency is a very common disease, affecting up to 25-30% of the adult population. It is a chronic and progressive disease, so finding a solution in time improves the prognosis.

They are sometimes accompanied by pain, heaviness, cramps, itching and muscular tiredness, especially after standing for long periods of time and more accentuated in summer. In the most serious cases, varicose veins may spontaneously occlude (superficial thrombophlebitis), or they may bleed from the slightest blow or injury.

What are the next steps?

Initial and maintenance treatment consists of conservative measures such as physical exercise, compressive stockings and a phlebotonic drug (natural or synthetic) may be sufficient.

However, none of these treatments will reverse the varicose vein and make the vein competent and small again. Such dilatations are already irreversible and the best thing to do is to annul the vein completely, to occlude it.

Endovascular treatments and/or chemical sclerosis (usually with the drug in the form of "foam") are used to "annul the vein".

Treatment and adverse effects

Endovascular treatments aim to "burn" the inner surface of the vein. The most widely accepted and validated consist of applying an energy source (laser or radiofrequency) to achieve this goal.

At AVENCE we are specialists in applying the latest endovascular laser technology and perform the procedure in the same surgery room, without the need for an operating theatre or general or epidural anaesthesia. The procedure is well tolerated and patients leave the clinic walking with compression stockings in place (no bulky bandages are required).

We are one of the few clinics in Spain that performs the procedure. without no need for an operating theatre, epidural anaesthesia or sedation.

On other occasions, or in combination with the above, sclerotherapy of varicose veins with foam is used. It is therefore important that each case is carefully studied.
