Small spider veins
....and not so small
About the pathology
What is it about?
Spider veins, technically called telangiectasias or venulectasias, are small, dilated, insufficient and superficially located veins, which is why they are so visible.
They are stage C1 in the CEAP classification and can sometimes cause leg heaviness and bruising from the slightest blow when there are too many of them.
Although their location is superficial, a personalised and in-depth study is necessary to rule out the possibility that these veins are accompanied by an insufficiency of other thicker veins which, if left untreated, could pose a problem in the progress of the results.

What are the next steps?
Once the study has been carried out, the most widely used treatment, with the best results and the most widely recognised by scientific societies, consists of puncturing the veins with very fine needles and injecting a liquid or foam solution that aims to irritate the internal wall of the vein and cause its occlusion and subsequent disappearance (this is known as the sclerotherapy or vein sclerosis).
The treatment thus described seems easy. But it is not really easy. It has its benefits and its possible adverse effects, which is why treatment is a dynamic and evolving process, which varies according to the response obtained in previous sessions. "It is better to repeat than to regret". It is very important to be patient and not to be desperate in wanting to see results from the first session, as sometimes it takes longer to obtain them.
Treatment and adverse effects
Based on this philosophy, we are specialists in applying cryosclerosis treatment, which consists of injecting a mild substance (with less possibility of adverse effects) at a very low temperature (thus increasing its sclerosing power).
The treatment is well tolerated, results may be slower, but it is WORTH IT as it reduces the likelihood of adverse effects. The most recognised and frequent are local, and there are two of them:
Consisting of a network of small vessels giving the appearance of a red blob
Brown spot in the area of the spider vein or sclerosed reticular vein).
